After Pat O'Connor's "Sumar Special" win on July 4, 1956, the USAC Series waited 51 years to make a return visit to Darlington Raceway. When they arrived on Wednesday afternoon, however, they couldn't wait one more day.
The Silver Crown Series' test session at the track "Too Tough To Tame," which was scheduled to begin on Thursday morning, March 1, actually started under the lights on Wednesday evening. Brian Tyler of Mt. Pleasant, NC was the first driver to hit the track.
The verdict, according to Tyler? "It's rough, and it's narrow … and it's a blast."
Testing will continue on Thursday morning, starting at approximately 10 a.m., and is open to the public. Details regarding the possibility of an upcoming race at Darlington will be released following the test.
