Darlington Raceway Fan to be Awarded Authentic Johnny Mantz Showtime Southern 500 Trophy
DARLINGTON, S.C. (April 6, 2010) – Darlington Raceway and Showtime are sending one lucky fan home from the SHOWTIME Southern 500 with the ultimate prize – an authentic Johnny Mantz SHOWTIME Southern 500 trophy.
This is the first time that a race fan and the winning driver will be awarded with identical trophies in Gatorade Victory Lane.
“The Johnny Mantz SHOWTIME Southern 500 trophy really tells the story of Darlington Raceway,” said Darlington Raceway President, Chris Browning. “Adding your name to this trophy is a huge accomplishment for a Sprint Cup driver. This trophy is one of the most coveted pieces of hardware a Sprint Cup driver can win and will certainly make a great show piece for one lucky fan.”
The trophy is being given away as part of an Ultimate NASCAR Experience at the SHOWTIME Southern 500. In addition to the trophy the winner will also receive roundtrip airfare for two, hotel accommodations, VIP access at the track including suite access for the race and of course access to Gatorade Victory Lane.
To enter the sweepstakes fans can visit Showtime's website here.
“This is really the ultimate prize for any race fan,” said Browning. “The winner will receive VIP treatment at the track and be presented with their replica Johnny Mantz SHOWTIME Southern 500 trophy in victory lane just like the winning driver.”
The trophy, introduced prior to the 2009 SHOWTIME Southern 500, features the name and image of every driver to win the famed event including the trophies namesake, Johnny Mantz, the winner of the Inaugural SHOWTIME Southern 500 in 1950. The trophy stands approximately three feet tall and weighs in at a whopping 50 pounds.
