Crews Prepare for Long Night of Painting at Darlington Raceway

DARLINGTON, S.C. (May 7, 2010) – Darlington Raceway proved once again that it is the track “Too Tough To Tame” today sending eight teams in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series to back-up cars for tomorrow’s SHOWTIME Southern 500. All of that on-track action means that crews will be working well into the morning hours to put a fresh coat of paint on the infamous wall at Darlington Raceway.

“We saw so many drivers earn their Darlington Stripe today, if practice was this exciting, tomorrow’s SHOWTIME Southern 500 is sure to be a great race,” said Darlington Raceway President, Chris Browning. “With all of those stripes comes extra work for the Sprint Cup teams and our paint crew.  They will be working long into the night to meticulously restore Darlington’s traditional red and white walls in time for tomorrow’s race.”

Crews will begin painting the walls at Darlington Raceway immediately following the Royal Purple 200 Presented by O’Reilly Auto Parts NASCAR Nationwide Series race and are expected to work well into the night. The re-paint will take over 100 gallons of paint and take crews nearly six hours to complete.

While it will take nearly six hours to paint the wall, it will not take long for the wall to once again show signs of Darlington Stripes on Saturday, proving that Darlington can not be tamed.
