DARLINGTON, S.C. (May 12, 2014) – Darlington Raceway will serve as the host site for Freedom Fest, a free admission Independence Day celebration hosted by the Greater Darlington Chamber of Commerce on Friday, July 4.
Freedom Fest will be held from 4 p.m. – 10 p.m. and take place in the infield of the famed track that is Too Tough To Tame. The event is free and open to the public.
The first-ever festival will feature a Kids Zone, Cruise-In for car enthusiasts, and concerts by the John Curtis Lewis Band of Florence, S.C. and Millstar Nashville Recording Artist Outshyne.
Outshyne has a history at Darlington Raceway as the popular country band played the pre-race concert for the 2013 Bojangles’ Southern 500. Lead singer, Waylon Owings, also performed the National Anthem for the race that year.
John Curtis Lewis has also played at the track having been a featured band at the Speed & Feed BBQ Cook-off and Car Show last November.
Freedom Fest will conclude the evening with an impressive fireworks display celebrating our country’s independence.
“This event gives the Chamber and its sponsors the opportunity to show our appreciation for the community’s generous support throughout the year. Keeping the event free to the public and making it family friendly are my top priorities. I hope to see all of Darlington County and surrounding areas at the inaugural Freedom Fest at Darlington Raceway,” said Hannah Stanley, Executive Director of the chamber.
In a continued effort to be a strong community partner, Freedom Fest is another avenue for the track to engage with is local communities. The July 4 festival joins a list of activities the track has or will host for the community in 2014.
“Freedom Fest will be a family-fun community event here on July 4 that we are pleased to be a part of,” Darlington Raceway President Chip Wile said. “It’s important that we utilize the track for these types of festivals and keep our community engaged with Darlington Raceway all year long. We enjoy these opportunities and it will be a fun evening for everyone involved.”
