CHARLOTTE, N.C. – NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Rookie of the Year contender Chase Elliott revealed the yellow-and-black No. 24 NAPA AUTO PARTS Assurance of Quality Chevrolet SS that he will race in the Sept. 4 Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway as part of the track’s Southern 500 throwback weekend.

The retro-themed paint scheme mimics a longstanding NAPA AUTO PARTS delivery truck. The design will feature a yellow hood and roof panel sporting NAPA AUTO PARTS’ 1963 logo – the last version before the modern day yellow-and-blue design seen today. The logo introduced in 1963 was meant to remind customers that NAPA was nationwide and represented quality with knowledgeable employees – traits that still hold true today. The lower half of Elliott’s Chevrolet is a sleek black with the current NAPA design emblazoned on the quarter panels as well as the deck lid next to a bright white No. 24 on the door panels. The rear television panel features the current logo design next to white script reading “90 Years Strong” as NAPA AUTO PARTS has been in business for over 90 years. The National Automotive Parts Association was formed in 1925.

“The yellow and black is based off of NAPA’s old logo,” Elliott comments as he unveiled the retro paint scheme. “The logo was actually on one of their delivery trucks in the 1960s and we modeled the entire paint scheme off of that truck. I think it turned out really good. I like it and I’m excited about running it in Darlington. I think we have a car that will certainly stand out, which is good.”

The design is part of an overall throwback weekend at one of NASCAR’s oldest venues. Built in 1949 by Harold Brasington, Darlington Raceway has hosted Sprint Cup races since 1950. The first Southern 500 at Darlington took place on Labor Day in 1950 courtesy of a deal made between Brasington and NASCAR founder Bill France Sr. More than 80 entrants showed up for the inaugural event.

“We appreciate the support of our throwback program by Chase Elliott and Hendrick Motorsports,” Darlington Raceway President Chip Wile said. “Chase’s special paint scheme for the Bojangles’ Southern 500 is one that fans won’t want to miss on Labor Day weekend. We’re so pleased that the teams, drivers and their partners have recognized the importance of celebrating the history of our sport at Darlington Raceway, one of the most iconic tracks on the circuit."
