354 UNITS OF BLOOD COLLECTED AT DARLINGTON RACEWAY BLOOD DRIVES IN 2014

Race fans and community members joined Darlington Raceway on Patriots Day for the ninth annual 9-11 Darlington Raceway Blood Drive. A total of 173 units of blood were collected on Thursday. Combined with the 181 units of blood collected during the track’s Bojangles’ Southern 500 race weekend last April, Darlington Raceway has collected 354 total units of blood in 2014 for the South Carolina Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross.

    Darlington Raceway and NASCAR officials announced that stock car racing will return to the track Too Tough To Tame on Labor Day weekend in 2015. The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Bojangles’ Southern 500 will compete on Sunday, Sept. 6. The NASCAR Nationwide Series VFW Sport Clips Help A Hero 200 will race on Saturday, Sept. 5 (official start times TBA). Both races are scheduled to be broadcast on NBC.

    For most people, the idea of running every day for 10 straight years seems like an insurmountable task. Not for Bishopville, S.C. resident and Darlington Marathon participant Robbie McLendon. This Friday, August 29, McLendon will have run every single day for 10 consecutive years, a span of 3,650 days. The avid runner has averaged 8.38 miles per day since 2004 and will have totaled over 30,607 miles of running, following the completion of his 10-year streak.

    Lesa France Kennedy to be Honored by National Women’s History Museum

    On Saturday, August 23, 2014, the National Women’s History Museum (NWHM) and its Los Angeles Regional Council, will host a private brunch at 11:45 a.m. PT at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles – Women Making History – to honor the achievements of three notable women including Lesa France Kennedy, ISC CEO and NASCAR Board Member. The event will honor female philanthropists and activists who contribute to women’s history while creating awareness to advance NWHM’s mission and build a world-class museum in Washington, D.C.
