354 UNITS OF BLOOD COLLECTED AT DARLINGTON RACEWAY BLOOD DRIVES IN 2014

Race fans and community members joined Darlington Raceway on Patriots Day for the ninth annual 9-11 Darlington Raceway Blood Drive. A total of 173 units of blood were collected on Thursday. Combined with the 181 units of blood collected during the track’s Bojangles’ Southern 500 race weekend last April, Darlington Raceway has collected 354 total units of blood in 2014 for the South Carolina Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross.

    DARLINGTON RACEWAY’S “RACE INTO READING” PROGRAM RESULTS IN OVER 10,500 BOOKS READ IN LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICT

    Elementary students in the Darlington County School District (DCSD) read more than 10,500 books in three weeks, as part of Darlington Raceway’s “Race Into Reading” Program. Designed as a way to celebrate “March is Reading Month” and to get children excited about reading, the “Race Into Reading” Program challenged first through fifth graders across the county to read as many books as possible.

Miss South Carolina, Brooke Mosteller is sure to wow the crowd as she performs our national anthem prior to the start of the Bojangles’ Southern 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on Saturday night, April 12! And for those of you wondering about Friday night’s VFW Sport Clips Help A Hero 200 NASCAR Nationwide Series anthem, we’ll hear the Coker College Men’s Vocal Ensemble, led by associate professor of music Dr. William Carswell.

    A test session at Darlington Raceway featuring NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Casey Mears will be FREE and open to the public today, April 1, from 1 p.m. – 9 p.m. Mears, who drives the No. 13 GEICO Chevy SS for Germain Racing, had already turned laps around the track Too Tough To Tame on Monday and will do so again today for the fans.

    STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA DECLARES APRIL 6-13 “DARLINGTON RACEWAY WEEK” IN SOUTH CAROLINA

    The week of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Bojangles’ Southern 500, April 6-13, 2014, has been named “Darlington Raceway Week, a Week Too Tough To Tame” after the South Carolina Senate and House of Representatives passed a concurrent Resolution. The famed track’s 65-year history is a major reason that the South Carolina Senate and House of Representatives passed the concurrent Resolution, led by state Senator Gerald Malloy, D-Hartsville.
