Fan Texting Service Returns to Darlington Raceway

Darlington Raceway partnered with InStadiumSolutions (“ISS”) to implement a text-message based communication system at their facility. The service first debuted during the 2009 SHOWTIME Southern 500 weekend. The system will once again be implemented this weekend, May 7 – May 8, at Darlington, host to the NASCAR Nationwide Series Royal Purple 200 Presented by O’Reilly Auto Parts 200 and Sprint Cup series SHOWTIME Southern 500.

Showtime Southern 500 Week Declared Darlington Raceway Week in South Carolina
The week of the SHOWTIME Southern 500 has once again been named Darlington Raceway week in South Carolina. The South Carolina Senate and House of Representatives recently passed a Concurrent Resolution decaling race week “Darlington Raceway Week in South Carolina, a week ‘Too Tough To Tame.’”

Every Driver Earns His Stripe at Darlington Raceway
According to Webster’s Dictionary, a stripe is a stroke or blow with a rod or whip. The word, which derives from 15th century Middle English grammar, originally referred to a welt or long scar from a “stripe” band on a piece of clothing. Stripe has carried a different connotation in NASCAR circles, however. That’s because in the context of racing, it’s always preceded by another noun: Darlington.
