Race fans and community members joined Darlington Raceway on Patriots Day for the eighth annual 9/11 Darlington Raceway Blood Drive. A total of 183 units of blood were collected on Wednesday. Combined with the 197 units of blood collected during Darlington Raceway’s Bojangles’ Southern 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series weekend in May, the track Too Tough To Tame has collected 380 units of blood for the Pee Dee chapter of the American Red Cross. With each unit having the ability to help up to three patients in need, Darlington Raceway’s efforts will help approximately 1,140 people in our community.

Darlington Raceway is offering a fun kids day at the track for Raceway Rascals presented by Future Scholar 529 College Savings Plan members. Raceway Rascals kids day will be held in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series garage at Darlington Raceway on Saturday, June 18 from 9 a.m. – Noon.

The arrival of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in the Pee Dee Region of South Carolina means a big economic impact on the entire area. A 2009 study estimated the annual economic impact of Darlington Raceway at $54 million across the state.

The week of the Southern 500® will take on an even more important meaning in 2009. Today the South Carolina Senate and House of Representatives passed a Concurrent Resolution declaring race week Darlington Raceway Week in South Carolina, a week "Too Tough to Tame."
